Leicester City has been selected to participate in the 2016 International Champions Cup this summer. This will be the 4th edition of the preseason tournament and Leicester’s first appearance, with Leicester playing in the North American portion of the tournament.
Leicester City will join nine other teams participating in the main competition, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, AC Milan, and others.
In a statement posted on the club’s official site, Chief Executive Susan Whelan stated:
"An invitation to participate in the International Champions Cup highlights the significant impression the Club is making on an international audience. We are delighted to be involved in this year's competition. It will form part of a carefully planned pre-season program that has worked extremely well in recent years – including a week-long training camp in Austria and selected domestic friendly fixtures.
"The ICC is a great opportunity to compete with some of Europe’s leading clubs and to further promote the Club, and the city of Leicester, around the world."
Leicester City will play three games in the tournament, beginning with a trip to Celtic Park in Glasgow to face Celtic on Saturday, July 23, before traveling to face PSG on Saturday, July 30, in Los Angeles at a location to be announced later. The club concludes play in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday, August 3 against Barcelona in Stockholm at the Friends Arena.
Further additions to Leicester City’s pre-season schedule will be announced later. Ticket details for the International Champions Cup can be found on the official website of the cup, www.internationalchampionscup.
