Turkish league champions Besiktas have announced today that Leicester City midfielder Gokhan Inler has passed a medical ahead of a move.

Inler only joined the Foxes last summer, in a deal reported to be worth £3m from Napoli. He was expected to bring veteran leadership as part of new manager Claudio Ranieri’s attempts to ‘search the world’ for a replacement for departing hero Esteban Cambiasso.

It never worked out for Inler, however. He struggled to get up to the pace of the Premier League and, with Drinkwater and Kanté playing so well in front of him, he barely saw the field.

Within a year of arriving as the solution to our problems and captain of his national team, he had slipped to an afterthought, and failed to even make the Switzerland squad for Euro 2016. He’s been halfway out the door all summer and the deal is now finally across the line.

Inler’s deal is the first of what could be a busy deadline day for Leicester City. Keep up with the news and rumours here.
