Here we are again on deadline day, that most overhyped of days. From now until the window ‘slams’ shut, as we’re always told it has, we’ll be inundated with increasingly frantic and fabricated rumours, and then even for a short while after.
While last year’s deadline was exciting, in that we broke our transfer record to bring in Islam Slimani, this year’s is more alarming, with seemingly half of the starting 11 lining up to exit. So why are we here? Because, secretly, deep deep down, you love it.
Is Mahrez leaving, will he be replaced, has Gareth Bale been spotted at a chip shop on Narborough Road? We’ll bring you all the latest rumours and done deals right here.
Namplys Mendy joins Nice on a year long loan - first deal of the day!
Aleksandar Dragovic joins on loan - we have our defender. This presumably ends all interest in Evans, Gibson, Chambers etc
UPDATE - Chelsea have made a third bid. It’s not at the asking price, but there’s an expectation that the deal will get done.
Riyad Mahrez - the latest update is that he’s left the Algeria squad to complete his transfer, but there might not yet be a bid for him.
Update: literally no one wants him. Arsenal are out apparently, while Spurs, United and Barca rumours don't have much substance, at least yet. No contact bid from Chelsea either. Awkward.
Jamie Vardy, Demarai Gray and Islam Slimani, though all linked with exits at some point, are staying.
Adrien Silva - Silva is headed to Leicester for talks. A deal looks on, but only if Drinkwater were to leave.
Aleksandar Dragovic - This one came out nowhere. Sort of. We were linked all of last summer, but eventually beaten out by Bayer Leverkusen. The Austrian never broke into the first team though, and could be joining on loan.
Mamadou Sakho - we were briefly linked, but Sakho has joined Crystal Palace (£26m. Oof.)
Andros Townsend - look, I don’t like, you don’t like it, but I said I’d put all the rumours down. The good news is that apparently Palace want £25m (or Demarai Gray?!) and we’re not willing to part with that because, well, we’re not insane.
