Leicester’s stars rated by FIFA 18

The ratings are questionable at best.

It’s that time of year. The wonderful video game FIFA 18 will be released this Friday, September 29, 2017. This means it’s time for everybody to get excited, but not before becoming outraged at the consistently baffling ratings of their favorite players.

Us Leicester City supporters in particular have loads to complain about this year, but we’ll start with the more reasonable ratings.

Checking in at the top of the ranks for Leicester are Riyad Mahrez and Kasper Schmeichel, each boasting a rating of 83. Though it does make some sense that they would be rated the best given their superior technical abilities, their overall ratings may be a bit low.

Jamie Vardy, however, is rated as an unimpressive 81, which will surely draw the ire of City supporters. The English forward may not be as skillful as Mahrez, but he is the most productive player on the team and probably the most important.

To make matters worse, Islam Slimani is rated just above Vardy at an 82. The big Algerian is certainly a talented player but not more so than Vardy. This appears to follow a trend of players with recent experience in other top leagues being rated above those with more Premier League experience. For example, Vicente Iborra checks in at 82, a full five points better than his midfield counterpart Wilfred Ndidi (77).

At this point I only have a limited amount of energy left to feign outrage so I’ll just point out a couple more of the most outrageous rating disparities:

Ahmed Musa (76) > Kelechi Iheanacho (75)

Harry Maguire = Yohan Benalouane at 75

Daniel Amartey (75) > Demarai Gray (74), Ben Chilwell (70)

Though some of these ratings seem absurd it may be useful to remember that FIFA 18 is just a collection of pixels - albeit an extremely fun one - in the form of a soccer simulation.

The rest of the squad is rated as follows:

Robert Huth (78)

Wes Morgan (77)

Marc Albrighton (77)

Shinji Okazaki (77)

Aleksandar Dragovic (77)

Christian Fuchs (76)

Danny Simpson (75)

Leonardo Ulloa (74)

Andy King (72)

Eldin Jakupovic (72)

Matty James (71)

Ben Hamer (68)

Hamza Choudhury (65)

George Thomas (63)

Daniel Iversen (62)

Darnell Johnson (59)

Joshua Debayo (58)

Layton Ndukwu (58)

Admiral Muskwe (58)

Faiq Bolkiah (55)
