It finally happened. The transfer that made the world stop spinning is done. No, not that transfer, the other one.

Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez is finally getting his dream move to Manchester City after months in limbo. The lengthy saga between the two clubs has finally reached its conclusion as Mahrez passed his medical after the clubs agreed to a reported fee of £60 million (with potential add-ons). The fee would represent a club-record purchase for Manchester City and a club-record sale for Leicester City.

The tricky Algerian winger is perhaps the most talented player in the club’s history, as proven by his unique accomplishments, including winning PFA Player of the Year and finishing in the top 10 for Ballon d’Or voting in 2016. He was instrumental to Leicester City’s historic Premier League title as he finished that season with a remarkable 17 goals and 11 assists.

In reference to Riyad Mahrez, Leicester City’s own Christian Fuchs once wrote in the Player’s Tribune, “O.K. somehow we have a world-class player in Leicester.” Though his departure has been a turbulent affair for the club, he should still go down as one of the most influential figures in its history. His dazzling combination of unpredictable footwork, impressive instincts, and an eye for end-product make him a truly special player who will be nearly impossible to replace.

Farewell, Riyad, we wish you all the best and thank you for your immense contributions!
