Player Ratings: Southampton 0 - 9 Leicester City

It probably would’ve been easier just to give everybody 10s.

Leicester City enjoyed a record-breaking day with a 9-0 win over 10-man Southampton at St. Mary’s. It was very good. Everyone was good. That’s pretty much it.

Kasper Schmeichel - 8

He was pretty good.

Ricardo Pereira - 8

He was also good, but not as good as some of the other players.

Jonny Evans - 8

Not much to do, but still pretty good

Çağlar Söyüncü - 9

Really good for a center back in a game like this. There was one incident in which he knocked the ball free about three times during a Southampton attack.

Ben Chilwell - 10

Just an all-around dominant performance. That good. He set the tone from the start with his goal and continued to boss the game with a pair of assists.

Wilfred Ndidi - 9

City had 73% possession against a team a man down and he still managed to make seven tackles. So good.

Youri Tielemans - 9

You’d be forgiven for forgetting about his goal with the way the rest of the game went. Apparently he also registered an assist. So good that I forgot about it.

James Maddison - 9

Just casually good instead of ridiculously good like the rest of the team. Except for his free kick goal. That was ridiculously good.

Ayoze Perez - 10

Finally got his first official goal for the Foxes. And his second. And a third. He also trapped a ball with such insane touch that a 10 was guaranteed. He was spectacularly good.

Jamie Vardy - 10

For a bit it seemed like he would just play a small part in the party. But of course Jamie Vardy isn’t one to miss out on a party. He bagged a hat-trick including the record-breaking ninth goal. Did I mention he was good?

Harvey Barnes - 10

Supremely good performance from the young winner. He carved the defense open regularly with dribbles and passes and provided a beautiful assist for one of Ayoze’s goals. He also connected perfectly with Chilwell.

Substitutes:

Marc Albrighton - 7.5

Came on in the 71st minute. Most of the good open-play fun was over at this point, but still had some fun of his own with three successful dribbles.

Demarai Gray - 7

Subbed on in the 73rd minute and honestly didn’t do much, but it felt weird to give anybody less than a 7 for this game.

How much can really be said about this game? I can’t think of much outside of “Boy, that sure was fun. All of the players were quite good.”

Picking the Fosse Posse Man of the Match was the only stressful thing to come from this game. You could pick about five different players without much objection. Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez were both hat-trick heroes, and Youri Tielemans and James Maddison both flashed with bright moments, but Harvey Barnes and Ben Chilwell were the most consistently good in open play. The pick for MOTM, though, was Ben Chilwell. He was just unbelievably good.
