Round three of the Carabao Cup

Luton Town vs Leicester City 2:45 pm ET

Unfortunately this match won’t be televised on ESPN + again, but hopefully the club will make available the radio broadcast at least.

Luton Town

Luton scored three goals in both of their matches in the cup thus far. Their first match was against Ipswich Town where they raced out to a three-nil lead before allowing a late consolation in the 74th minute.

In their second match it took a 43rd minute own goal by Cardiff City’s Junior Hoilett to get them on the board. Two goals in seven second half minutes eventually led to a three-nil victory. They only had three shots on target and scored from all of them. While their cup form has been great, their league form has not. Two wins, one draw, and five losses has them near the bottom of the table in 21st place.

Leicester City

The Foxes are fresh off a fantastic victory over Tottenham and momentum in the squad should be high for this one. It will be Leicester’s second trip in this cup run and hopefully they will get the job done before penalties. James Maddison’s opener against Newcastle was cancelled out by Yoshinori Muto’s goal in the 53rd minute. It ended 1-1 and immediately went to penalties. The troubling stat from that match was the one shot on target from 10 total shots.

If I had one worry for this match, it will be who starts at CB. I’d like to see a somewhat rotated squad with another match against Newcastle on Sunday. Christian Fuchs could move into the spot, but I imagine he’ll step in at LB. If healthy, I’d be keen on Filip Benkovic and Wes Morgan to step in, but I doubt that will be the case.

Match Prediction

Given Luton’s form in the league I fancy Leicester to take this one, but away cup matches against lower league opposition haven’t been kind to the Foxes in the past. That being said, I still think there is enough class in the side to take the W 3-1.
