According to Dan Sheldon of The Athletic UK, Southampton have accepted Leicester City’s bid of £15 million for defender Jannik Vestergaard. The Foxes still need to come to personal terms with the 6’ 6” Denmark defender, but things are moving quickly and the deal could be completed very soon.

A central defender has been on the shopping list since the transfer window opened, but the injury to Wesley Fofana has added a new sense of urgency to the hunt. City have been linked with the 29 year-old Vestergaard for several windows now, so a move for him comes as no surprise.

It remains to be seen whether the deal can be finalized before the season opener against Wolves. Even if Vestergaard is in the fold by then, it is unlikely he will be in the starting XI, although a spot on the bench is not out of the question.
