After the preseason injury to Wesley Fofana (and to a lesser extent Wes Morgan’s retirement) Leicester City were looking very thin at Centreback.

The recruitment team have moved very quickly, and today announced the arrival of Jannik Vestergaard on a 3 year deal. Kasper Schmeichel’s international teammate joins from Southampton, for a fee thought to be around £15m.

The 29 year old brings with him a wealth of Premier League defensive experience, which will hopefully help him to fit in right away and plug an immediate hole.

It won’t hurt that he’s played with Kasper and Ryan Bertrand before (you may remember him combining with Bertie in a certain win over Southampton).

As far as his fit in the squad, he makes a great back up to Jonny Evans, with a calm demeanor to temper the more enthusiastic styles of Fofana and Soyuncu.

He may not quite have the positioning and experience of Evans (who does) but at 6’6 his physicality more than makes up for it.

It’s not the most exciting signing - neither an exciting prospect or a proven star - but it’s a good one. He fills a desperate hole at a very reasonable price. The Foxes have chased him for a while and I’n sure we’ll why sooner rather than later.
