Winger Ademola Lookman joins Leicester City on season-long loan from RB Leipzig. Sky Sports are reporting that there is also an option to make the deal permanent. The former Everton man made his Premier League debut for the Toffees in 2016/17 at the age of 18. He plays for the England Under-21s, but he is also eligible to play for Nigeria at the senior level and might we get some recruiting in this direction from within the Leicester squad.

The tricky midfielder impressed last year for Fulham. Read that sentence again, because that puts him in pretty exclusive company. The 23 year-old scored four times and provided four assists, which may not seem like much, but he also created as many chances as Jamie Vardy did last year. Fulham’s strikers struggled mightily to turn “balls delivered to the feet of strikers in dangerous positions” into “goals’ last year, so it would be fair to assume he would have topped the four assist mark with some better finishing.

The consensus is that Lookman will be the next in our long line of illustrious replacements for Riyad Mahrez. Interestingly, he doesn’t fit the mould in that he’s a right-footed winger who is equally at home on either side and perhaps even more so in the middle. He offers intriguing tactical flexibility, a trait that manager Brendan Rodgers is sure to appreciate.

What he doesn’t offer is much on the defensive side. He’s very clever on the ball and possesses a good eye for a pass, but he’s not at his best tracking back and, at 5’8”, he’s not going to provide much in the air. He undoubtedly improves the attack and adds a dimension or two we don’t currently possess. Plus, and I cannot stress this enough, he’s a great deal of fun to watch.

In theory, that he will be the last signing of the transfer window for the Foxes (he says unwisely before the close of the window). It looks like all the boxes have been ticked. Normally, I’d do a poll here to ask how you rate Lookman, but instead, how about you just let us know in the comments?
