This summer the UK is caught up in 2 stay-or-go debates - EU and Jamie Vardy. Arsene Wenger thinks he knows how one will play out. I'll let you guess which.

The Premier League transfer window has been officially open for 11 days. If all rumours and speculation were true, Leicester's top scorer would have already moved back and forth between City and Arsenal at least as many times.

The Gunners, so-named for their love of triggering things, triggered a release clause in the striker's contract last month. Both sides have offered contracts and the decision is now down to Vardy. However, this has not stopped others from weighing in and, while I'll promise not to bore non-EU readers with any more terrible referendum jokes after this paragraph, the parallels almost write themselves.

Boris Johnson's blonde lunatic role is played by Robbie Savage, a former Leicester favorite, who left for Derby County, kissed their badge and then came crawling back late this year, claiming to be a Leicester fan. He thinks Vardy should leave.

The smarmy hypocrisy of all other politicians is to be provided by Gary Lineker, who played 2 full top-flight seasons with the Foxes, scoring 24 in the second, and then immediately left for bigger and better things. He thinks Vardy, who scored 24 in his second top-flight season with the club, should stay.

Things seem to have settled down with the man himself in another country, focusing on Euro 2016 and refusing to decide on his future until after. Over the weekend, however, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, speaking in China, told reporters that he believed the prolific forward would stay with the Foxes.

For those doubting the international nature of the club's "brand", that's Arsenal's French manager, in China, talking about City's England striker, currently in France to play Slovakia.

Local reporters have today thrown some cold water over these comments, stating that the player has still made no decisions at all, as far as they are aware. Nonetheless, this can still only be good for news for the team.

If Arsenal are less confident of taking him, shouldn't we be more confident of him staying? This could be strange mind games, of course, but seems more like a frustrated outburst from someone who genuinely doesn't think he's going to get his man.

Alongside this speculation have been reports that Watford have rejected a £25m bid from Leicester for captain Troy Deeney. True or not, the Foxes' interest does appear to be genuine. Others have suggested that this will disappear if Vardy votes to remain, but I doubt that.

Interest in Islam Slimani and Ahmed Musa have shown we're happy with paying that kind of fee this summer, while the 6-foot Deeney is more comfortable playing as a second striker. In fact, his added size and aerial presence, combined with the good footballing ability required for the position would make him an ideal partner for the speedster Vardy.

We still don't really know what's going to happen. Arsene Wenger thinks he does, but we don't know if that's for any real reason or if he's just a trophy-cabinet, half-empty sort of man.

Oh and about Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kanté...they are still very much up in the air.

Buckle-up, only 71 days to go.

England substitutes Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge inspired a 2-1 comeback victory for the Three Lions.

England secured themselves their first win of Euro 2016 with a 2-1 victory over rival Wales in dramatic fashion, with Leicester City frontman Jamie Vardy coming off the bench to bring the Three Lions back into the game.

Both teams came out of the gate a bit nervy, but England had the better of the early chances.

Seven minutes into the match England were handed a golden opportunity. They intercepted the ball after some sloppy interplay from Wales and quickly broke, with Harry Kane slotting it off to Adam Lallana, who put in the perfect ball to a wide-open Raheem Sterling at the edge of the six-yard box. It was almost a certain goal, yet somehow the Manchester City man managed to sky it high and wide of the goal.

Despite spending the majority of the half camped out in the Welsh end, England lacked any form of creativity.

Wales struck first in the 42nd minute off a Gareth Bale free-kick. It was a needless foul to concede from captain Wayne Rooney, but it was quite the distance from goal.

Yet somehow Bale managed to slot it into the bottom corner, as Joe Hart was unable to get enough on the ball. It was a well struck free-kick that probably should have been saved by Hart. The English keeper seemed shaky throughout the match.

Wales went into the break with a 1-0 lead as the goal was the only Welsh shot on target. It seemed nothing was going right for England, despite having their fair share of chances.

Vardy seemed the ideal substitute as once again, as Tottenham striker Harry Kane had little to no impact on the game. Roy Hodgson decided to bring on Vardy and Daniel Sturridge for Kane and Sterling.

Immediately England looked more dangerous offensively, with Vardy and Sturridge both energetic up top.

It didn't take long for the Leicester man to make his mark on the game, slotting home a close-range strike off an miscued header from Welsh captain Ashley Williams, leveling the scoreline at 1-1.

It seemed a draw was the way it was going to finish, as England lacked any form of creativity following the goal. But after some great set up play between Vardy, Sturridge, and Dele Alli, Sturridge was able to grab the winner amidst a lapse from the Welsh defense, sending all of England into hysterics to secure the 2-1 win.

The victory is a weight off England's back to go into their final Group B match against Slovakia only needing a draw to advance to the Round of 16. Despite the dramatic finish, it was an uninspiring performance at best. It should leave Hodgson with some questions about his starting front three, as Sturridge and Vardy proved far more threatening, not to mention clinical in front of goal.

Based on his performance today, Jamie Vardy shone brightly and should rightfully earn his place back in the England starting 11. But with Roy Hodgson, you never know.

Foxes top scorer wants to devote his attention to the England cause at Euro 2016 in France, and will delay any decision on his impending transfer to Arsenal until he returns. Leicester fans can be glad.

Monday at 11.30, we were all told, was the hard deadline for Jamie Vardy to make his final decision: would he stay with Premier League Champions Leicester City or move to new pastures at Arsenal.

Monday came and went without a conclusion to this summer's first big transfer saga. If England manager Roy Hodgson gets his way, so will the rest of June. Reports today have suggested that Hodgson would prefer players to drop transfer concerns to focus on the tournament at hand and that Leicester man Vardy, possibly fearing his place in the side, is likely to agree to this. The striker already missed a friendly to attend his wedding last month.

While it answers ultimately nothing, this can only be good news for Leicester fans. The earliest reports had made the deal sound like a formality, all but signed. In response to what can only be described as an absurd overreaction from their fans, the Foxes odds for relegation were cut to as low as 25/1 after the story first broke.

While I feel comfortable asserting that the title holders will not be relegated even if they lose Vardy, Mahrez and Kanté, their three superstars from the past season, even just a delay in this deal could be a big gain for Leicester. All three will have at least some thought of leaving. An early departure of one will only push the others closer to the door. The longer the club can hold off, the more likely they are to keep hold of some of their stars.

If England were to be eliminated at the earliest opportunity, June 20th, that might not make much difference. The redesign of the tournament, however, makes that very unlikely. The Three Lions are likely to hold out until July. Possibly even the final on July 10. If Vardy is still a Leicester player then, the others are more likely to be as well.

Equally, if Mahrez and Kanté are still around by then, Vardy is surely more likely to trust that further success can be had. Times football writer Rory Smith has already stated that the longer this goes on, the more likely we are to retain the 24-goal forward. Arsenal as well may be tempted to go in search of others targets while they wait. The deal remains on the table for now, but that doesn't mean it always will be.

Stay patient then, is the message. It's a big delay, and I'm sure we'd all rather know what's going on, but ultimately, this is a wait that probably benefits Leicester City, whatever the eventual result may be.

Patience may also be required if the talismanic frontman needs to be replaced. Leicester and Tottenham Hotspur target Islam Slimani has a release clause worth €30 million and reports today claim that his club, Sporting Lisbon, will not take a penny less. Neither club seems willing to match that price, so this won't be a quick story either.

Stay calm everyone, there's only 85 days of transfer season left.

No news is…no news. The wait goes on Leicester City, as star striker decides to take more time to consider Arsenal and Leicester offers.

The deadline has passed. Initital reports suggested at a decision on Jamie Vardy's potential transfer to Arsenal would be announced before the England squad took off for Euro 2016 in France. That time has come and gone however. The striker is up in the air, and his future remains that way too.

I definitely thought this deal was moving way too quickly. On Friday it was announced that Arsenal has triggered the forward’s £20m release clause and the next day manager club and players were now negotiating. The England forward had signed a new deal with City reportedly worth £80,000 a week but, with Arsenal offering a significant raise, the Foxes have submitted their own improved offer.

After that it all came down to Vardy, with a decision expected this morning. Frustratingly, but perhaps wisely, the former Fleetwood Town man has opted to take a little longer to decide on his future. The Leicester Mercury reports this morning that the 29-year-old striker will take a few more days to make his decision and that no medical has yet taken place.

The wait for anxious fans goes on then. And, with new rumours today suggesting Arsenal are also interested in Riyad Mahrez, the best case scenario for fans is that this agony lasts until September.

However, when the deal eventually shapes out, the club itself still has plenty of time to prepare. Rumours have persisted all summer of deals for continental star strikers Ahmed Musa, Islam Slimani, Wissam Ben Yedder, and Troy Deeney.

Personally I think the Watford captain would be a great fit here, but we’ve been linked with him for at least the last five transfer windows, so don’t get your hopes up.

At least one striker is likely to join this year. If Vardy does leave, the squad would be down to just Leo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki up front, so expect at least 2 additions. For now though, which targets Leicester City will make concrete offers for and how many strikers Leicester wants are both still anyone's guess.

It’s possible the decision has been made but not announced. However, if Vardy is to leave, he’d still need to wait until England flame out of the tournament to go back and have his medical. So what I’m trying to say is…I have no idea what’s going on. Nor do most people. The ball remains in Vardy’s court and we’ll all just have to wait as patiently as possible.

Leicester's lone English representative will look to play a big role up front in France for manager Roy Hodgson and the Three Lions after an underwhelming friendly against Portugal that leaves more questions than answers for England ahead of Russia opener.

After Leicester City's extraordinary accomplishment of winning the Barclays Premier League in 2015-16, England manager Roy Hodgson will hope Foxes' striker Jamie Vardy can help recreate some of that magic on the international stage come June 11 when the Three Lions kick off their Euro 2016 campaign against Russia in Marseille.

England will face the likes of Russia, Slovakia and Wales in Group B after putting together the best qualifying campaign in Europe -- winning all of their games and conceding only three times. But qualifying is understandably a different story for England, who never seem to put together the full product when they hit the final tournament.

Since 1980, no team has been eliminated in the Euro group stages more than England. However the Three Lions have a good opportunity to equal their best finish (reaching the semifinals) if they can settle their line-up and top Group B.

Vardy will be the lone representative from the champions of England after Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater was axed from Hodgson's side on May 31 in order to keep the likes of Jordan Henderson and Jack Wilshere in the fold. The decision came despite the fact that Wilshere has failed to put in a full 90 minutes during the time it took Leeds United to sack six managers.

Hodgson definitely seems to prefer Eric Dier in the holding midfielder role, but a case certainly could have made for Drinkwater and the depth he could've brought to the Three Lions after an impressive showing against Australia in a 2-1 victory on May 27.

Vardy is one of five strikers selected by Hodgson and is poised to start up front alongside Tottenham's Harry Kane in a 4-4-2 diamond formation. This effectively pairs the Premier League's two most deadly finishers from 2015-16 together with young Manchester United star Marcus Rashford and Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge available on the bench.

Captain Wayne Rooney will most likely drop back into a more natural attacking position behind Kane and Vardy to provide support with James Milner and Dele Alli manning the midfield behind him. Dier should play in front of Chris Smalling and Gary Cahill and serve a highly-defensive midfielder role with Danny Rose and Kyle Walker providing support out wide.

However, Hodgson's side presents many opportunities to bend the formation to a 4-2-3-1 and potential starting line-up with the likes of Adam Lallana and Raheem Sterling in the fold. Joe Hart is most-assuredly England's starter in goal.

Potential starting XI for England on June 11 vs. Russia after Portugal friendly.

In typical English fashion, the Three Lions' final friendly before heading to France left more questions than answers thanks to a dull 1-0 win over 10-man Portugal on June 2. An 85th minute Smalling header provided the boost for England.

Hodgson's obligation to go with the best players hasn't translated to having the best possible line-up. As exemplified in the Portugal friendly, his starting XI will need a serious evaluation prior to kickoff against Russia.

Rooney's inclusion in the central of the attack pushed Kane and Vardy out wide, nullifying their primary influence as central strikers. Thursday's line-up seemed to be an attempt to play a formation that was capable of including all of England's best players rather than a line-up that compliment one another on the pitch. England's best play came about after Sterling, Wilshere and Lallana were subbed on and able to change up the attack.

In order to use the best strikers in your squad to their fullest, you need to employ them in a way that plays to their strengths. Vardy's abysmal eight touches against Portugal shows he isn't seeing enough of the ball to make an impact and was not effective out wide with Rooney's inclusion in the middle of the attack. Hodgson's inability to adapt his formation and line-up to suit its best players doesn't bode well for England, who enter Euro 2016 with multiple insecurities. Loyalty to players like Rooney and forcing an incapable formation seems to take priority when alternatives like Lallana and Sterling wait to make an impact on the bench.

Without changes in the coming week, it could be another painful and familiar tournament for England.

Will the English forward make the switch to the famed London club?

On Friday, news surfaced that Arsenal were very interested in swooping Leicester City striker, Jamie Vardy. The North London club's £20 million pound bid was enough to trigger Vardy's release clause, meaning the decision is now up to the player.

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri even admitted to the Italian media that "It's all true" what is being said about Jamie. It has also been revealed that Vardy has a scheduled medical exam on Sunday in Arsenal, and possible negotiations for a contract are slated to follow. While Ranieri remains desperately hopeful that Vardy will stay, it is starting to become apparent that he is preparing for life after Vardy

But just why Arsenal? The whole move itself doesn't truly make sense. While the deal for Vardy is an absolute steal and would probably make Arsenal the odds-on favorite to win the league, Vardy's move to the Gunners wouldn't really suit the striker. Let's look at how it would effect all involved.

Arsenal

Arsene Wenger currently has six strikers on the squad list, and the recent addition of Granit Xhaka has made this team a dangerous contender. In a lineup full of superstars, Vardy likely wouldn't thrive. It is likely however that Vardy would be used in a reserve role, slotting behind Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck, and even the young Alex Iwobi.

The only plausible explanation for Arsenal wanting to sign Vardy would be to use him as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez if the Chilean international were to leave. Still, Vardy isn't a true winger. Sure, England manager Roy Hodgson has used him there, but it's obvious Vardy is more comfortable as a striker.

For Arsenal, Vardy would provide a threat in the penalty area for two reasons: drawing penalties and his clinical finishing. Arsenal drew two penalties all last season while Vardy himself drew seven. In addition, the London side don't score with vigor and Vardy could help change that.

However, teams tend to defend more at the Emirates Stadium by having a compact backline and "parking the bus." Vardy would find difficulty opening opponents up and it would make his scoring touch dissipate.

Leicester

Contrary to Arsenal, Leicester have very few strikers on the roster. If Vardy were to leave, only two would remain: Shinji Okazaki, Leo Ulloa. The pair, while skilled, are nowhere near as talented or as quick as Vardy. If he were to choose Arsenal, Leicester would undoubtedly sign CSKA Moscow striker Ahmed Musa who plays a similar style to the Englishman.

There has also been interest in Torino/Dortmund/Sevilla striker Ciro Immobile. Leicester would certainly try to add more depth to a depleted striker core, and Immobile could be the player to fill a reserve role for the Foxes.

If Vardy is to stay, Leicester would probably still sign one of Immobile or Musa, look to get similar production out of Vardy next season, and use the striker at his primary and best position.

England National Team

Vardy to Arsenal would allow Roy Hodgson to enjoy the fact that his striker is likely being deployed, giving him more versatility. However, less playing time would mean less opportunity for Vardy to showcase his talent. That said, he may see his England caps start to drop with the possible infrequent playing time for Arsenal.

If he remained at Leicester, however, Vardy would continue to be the center of attention which would help his England chances. As his partnership with Tottenham's Harry Kane continues to grow, Vardy could enjoy international success as England prepare for the 2018 World Cup.

Premier League

With Leicester City stripped of its star player, the complexion of the league would return closer to normal: bigger clubs with the most money winning titles by buying stars from around the league. While it's sad that football has become a game of money, Leicester's championship made fans and pundits think otherwise, at least temporarily.

Jamie Vardy has a very important decision to make here. Does he stay with Leicester or make the move to a 'big club' like Arsenal? Certainly not an easy choice. But given the aforementioned circumstances, it would definitely be hard for Vardy to walk away from the Foxes...but not unlikely either.

Personally, I believe Vardy will be wise enough to choose Leicester, as it is the club that suits him best. Money talks and Arsenal could help make Vardy even more enticing. Moral of the story: only the man himself will know what's best for him. The choice is yours, Jamie. Choose wisely.
